Challenge

Wayfarer is a travel website for researching and planning trips. For this challenge, I was to design a landing page and a few mobile app screens. This challenge was crucial because it would be determined if I could move on to UX Academy.

Requirements for landing page

  • Design one (1) desktop size page. The design must include:

  • Navigation to other pages or sections on the site.

  • Simple search functionality to find destinations

  • A grid or list view of featured destinations (these would link through to further details)

  • Call-to-action to sign up for the newsletter

  • A footer section including at least a copyright date and some links to other pages.

Requirements for mobile

Create designs for these 3 screens:

  • Screen 1: List of destinations

  • Screen 2: A “detail” screen, giving full information about a destination

  • Screen 3: One of the following: Sign-in screen; Search screen; Account settings screen

My 3 screens

One of my personal challenges was the alignment of my logo. The typical left corner wasn’t complying with my images. To show consistency and so my logo wouldn’t get washed out with the images I aligned it in the center of the screens.

A feature I had was for users to be able to heart and save any locations, so later during their travels they could easily find info on what they wanted to try.

Also when discovering new destinations I categorized them per climate or adventure type and not per region. My thought process was users that already resides in tropical areas and wants a winter vacation or vice versa.
